Why and How LLC, doing business as Not Bored in DC (“we,” “us,” or “our”), operates the Not Bored apps and website at notboredapp.com (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use our Service, including as a Not Bored Creator (see “The Creator Program” below).

Information We Collect

Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, phone number, and profile photo, depending on your sign-in method (Google, phone, or email). This information is used to identify your account and personalize your experience.

Usage Data: We automatically collect information about how you interact with the Service, including pages visited, features used, events saved, stops visited, buttons tapped, links you open and share, and time spent. This helps us understand how people use the app and improve the experience.

Personalization Data: To personalize your experience and recommend events and places, we collect signals about how you use the Service: content you view, save, share, or dismiss and how long you spend on it; searches you run within the Service; filters you apply; and the general areas of the map you browse (the map region shown, not your device location). We use these signals to build a taste profile that ranks recommendations for you. This profile is private to your account, is never shared with other members or sold, and is deleted when your account is deleted. Depending on how you use the Service, some information may be visible to other members, such as your public profile and lists, and general activity related to content you share.

Location Data: If you grant permission, we collect your approximate location to show your position on the map. Location access is optional and can be revoked at any time through your device settings. We do not store or track your location history.

Device Information: We collect basic device and browser information such as device type, operating system, browser type, and screen size for analytics and to optimize the Service for different devices.

Content Others Have Made Public:Some places, events, and things to do on the Service are built from public social media posts. In that case we collect only what is public: the handle, the post itself, and public counts like likes and views. We use it to credit the post with a link back to it. If you’d rather your public post not be referenced this way, contact us at privacy@notboredapp.com and we’ll take it down.

How We Use Your Information

• Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
• Authenticate your account and manage your session
• Save your preferences, saved events, and cat crawl progress
• Send transactional emails (account verification, sign-in links)
• Analyze usage patterns to improve features and user experience
• Personalize your feed and recommend events and places based on your activity and stated interests
• Display curated promotional content from local businesses
• Manage premium subscriptions and referral payouts

Public Profiles, Lists, and Follows

Some parts of the Service are public by design. If you make a profile, list, or post public, anyone can see it, including people who don’t have an account, and anyone with the link can share it further. Following another member is visible to that member. We can’t remove information others have already saved, copied, or shared before you changed it.

Who We Share Information With

We don’t sell your personal information. We share it only with these types of service providers, each of which is required to protect it and use it only to provide their part of the Service:

• Sign-in and identity
• Hosting and data storage
• Payments, subscriptions, and payouts
• Email delivery
• Maps and location
• Analytics and error monitoring
• Artificial intelligence

We may also share information to comply with the law, to protect the rights and safety of Not Bored and our users, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of our business, in which case this Policy would continue to apply to your information. These services may use cookies, pixels, and similar technologies to collect data, and each operates under its own privacy policy.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies for:

• Essential cookies: Session authentication and security (required for the Service to function)
• Analytics cookies: Understanding how you use the Service

Third-party analytics services may set their own cookies to collect usage data. We do not sell your personal data to third parties. However, third-party cookies used for analytics may collect information about your browsing activity across websites.

The Creator Program

If you join the Not Bored Creator Program, we also collect the public information on the social accounts you verify (handle, name, profile photo, bio, and follower and post counts) and, for the posts you choose to bring in, the caption, date, public counts, images, and tagged accounts or locations. What we do with it, where your content can be shown, and what happens when you leave are set out in the Creator Program Terms. If you take part in the Referral Program, the Referral Program Terms cover what we collect to pay you, such as your payout and tax details (collected by our payment processor) and referral history.

Advertising

The Service may display promotional content from local businesses. These are curated by us to highlight businesses relevant to our community. We do not use programmatic advertising networks, and we do not share your personal data with advertisers.

Data Retention

We retain your account information and associated data for as long as your account is active. Usage and analytics data may be retained in aggregated or anonymized form for longer periods to improve the Service.

Detailed personalization signals (individual views, searches, and map-browsing events) are retained for up to 90 days, after which only aggregated monthly summaries are kept. Your taste profile and all personalization data are deleted when your account is deleted.

Account Deletion

You can delete your account yourself from the app (Profile → Edit profile→ Delete account), or by emailing us at privacy@notboredapp.com and we will process your request within 30 days. Deleting your account removes your personal data, except where required for accounting and tax, and, if you were a Creator, your Creator profile and images; places and events built from your posts remain part of the Service, credited with a plain text line, and your handle becomes available for someone else to verify. Records we need for accounting and taxes, such as referral payouts and fund transfer information, are kept after your account is deleted for as long as the law requires.

Data Security

We implement reasonable security measures to protect your personal information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure session cookies, and access controls. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@notboredapp.com and we will promptly delete it.

Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your data
• Object to or restrict certain processing
• Receive a copy of your data in a portable format

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page with a revised “Last updated” date. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
