Not Bored in DC

Creator Program Terms.

Version 1

These terms govern the Not Bored Creator Program (the “Program”), operated by Why and How LLC (“Not Bored,” “we”). By accepting them in the app you apply to the Program, and if approved you take part in it under these terms. They add to the Not Bored Terms of Use, which still apply.

1. Who can apply

The Program is for people who make content about places and things to do in a particular area. To apply you need a Not Bored account, to be at least 18, to own the social accounts you connect, and to have at least 10 posts about the area your content focuses on. We review every application and approve at our discretion.

2. Verifying your accounts

You prove an account is yours by placing a short code we give you in that account’s public bio. We read the public profile to find it; you can remove the code as soon as the account is verified. We never ask for your password, never log in to your accounts, and never post, comment, message or follow on your behalf. One social account can be verified by one Not Bored account.

3. What we collect from your accounts

From the accounts you verify we read public information only: your handle, name, profile photo, bio and website link; follower, following, post and like counts; and, for the posts you choose to import, the caption, the date, public counts such as likes and views, the cover image and carousel images, any spoken or on-screen text, and tagged accounts and locations. We use this to build your profile, to find the places and events your posts are about, and to review your application.

4. Permission to show your content

You keep ownership of everything you make. You give Not Bored a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license, for as long as you are in the Program, to copy, store and display your profile photo, handle, name, bio, and the cover and carousel images, captions and dates of the posts you import. We may show them on your Not Bored profile, on the pages of the places, events and things to do your posts are about, in lists, in recommendations and in the link previews of those pages, and we may link from them to the original posts.

To promote your content within Not Bored, we may also feature you and the content you import or create on Not Bored in our newsletter and in emails and messages to users and subscribers, and in our own organic content, such as posts announcing new lists in the app, and app demos. Those app demos may be shown within paid marketing. Any other paid use of your content is not covered by this agreement and requires a separate agreement with you.

We keep our own copies of these images because the platforms’ links to them expire. We don’t sell your content or license it to anyone else.

You confirm you have the right to grant this: that the posts are yours, and that showing them this way doesn’t break anyone else’s rights or an agreement you have with a brand or platform.

5. New posts

Once you’re approved, we check your verified accounts about once a day and let you know when a new post is ready to be imported by default. If you opt in to automatically importing your content, we will let you know that it is ready to be reviewed. You choose which platforms import automatically, and you can turn the daily check off, from your content page.

6. Places, events and things to do

From your posts we identify places, events and things to do, and add them to Not Bored or connect your post to ones already there. You can review these, correct them and remove the connection to your post. The places, events and things to do themselves are part of Not Bored’s shared guide: other people’s posts and saves point to them too, so they stay in Not Bored if you leave, without your name, images or link attached. Events you add are visible to you and to people you share them with until we approve them for everyone.

7. What you write and upload

Text you write on Not Bored (such as list descriptions and things-to-do notes) and images you upload (such as a replacement cover) are yours, and you give us the same license as in Section 4 to show them. Keep them accurate, your own, and within our content rules. We may edit or remove content that is wrong, misleading, unlawful or against those rules, and we review a sample of creator edits.

8. What you get

Approved creators get a verified profile with links to their platforms; their posts shown as image cards on the places and events they cover, linking to the original post; the ability to make lists for Premium members only; and six months of Not Bored Premium from the day they’re approved. If you already pay for Premium through the App Store or Google Play, the free months run alongside your subscription unless you cancel it; we’ll tell you how. Benefits are not cash and have no cash value. We may change, add or remove benefits over time and will tell you when we do.

9. Referrals

When you’re approved as a creator, you also join the Referral Program, which pays you commission on subscriptions from people you refer. It has its own terms, which you agree to when you apply: see the Referral Program Terms.

10. Honest recommendations

People rely on Not Bored to decide where to go. Don’t connect your posts to places or events they aren’t about, and don’t take payment to add, rank or describe a place on Not Bored. If a post you import was sponsored or gifted, it must carry the disclosure the law and the platform require, and you should mark it as sponsored when you review it on Not Bored so it is labeled here too.

11. Leaving, and removal

You can remove any post, disconnect an account, or leave the Program at any time. When you leave, or if we remove you, your creator profile, your image cards and our copies of your images come down; posts that remain referenced fall back to a plain text credit with a link, or are removed if you ask. Copies may persist briefly in caches and backups. We may suspend or remove a creator who breaks these terms, misrepresents ownership of an account or content, or harms the people who use Not Bored. Approval can be withdrawn.

12. Changes

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we’ll show you the new version and ask you to accept it to stay in the Program. The Program may change or end; if it ends, Section 11 applies.

13. The rest

You take part as an independent creator, not as our employee, agent or partner. The Program is provided as it is, without a promise of any particular reach, traffic or result. To the extent the law allows, our liability to you in connection with the Program is limited to one hundred US dollars. These terms are governed by the laws of the District of Columbia.
