Referral Program Terms.
Version 2, effective October 11, 2026
These terms govern the Not Bored Referral Program (the “Program”), operated by Why and How LLC (“Not Bored,” “we”). You agree to these terms when you apply to the Creator Program, and you become a Program participant when you’re approved as a creator.
1. Eligibility
The Program is open to approved Not Bored creators. By taking part you confirm you’re 18 or older and live in the US, and you need a US bank account in your own name to be paid. Employees and representatives of Not Bored are not eligible.
2. How referrals work
Your referral link, and any content you share from Not Bored, carries an identifier connecting it to your account. A referral is credited when someone creates a Not Bored account, or first subscribes, within 14 days of opening your link. If they opened links from more than one person in that time, a link from an approved creator counts over anyone else’s, and between creators the most recent one counts. Someone who already subscribed before isn’t credited again, and a person already credited to a creator stays with that creator. Each account has at most one referrer. You join the Program when you’re approved as a creator, and only referrals from then on earn commissions.
3. How attribution is tracked
We want every referral you drive to count, and we credit referrals in good faith using the rules in Section 2. Like all referral systems, tracking has technical limits: attribution can be missed when, for example, someone installs the mobile app directly from an app store after tapping your link, signs up on a different device or browser than the one they opened your link with, uses private browsing, or has cleared local storage. If you believe a referral wasn’t credited, contact us through the support form and we will review it in good faith. Because commissions can only be paid on referrals we can verify, the referrals and commissions recorded on your account govern.
4. Commissions
You earn a commission on every gross subscription payment your referrals make for Not Bored Premium, excluding taxes (their initial purchase and each renewal thereafter) for as long as they remain subscribed, the Program operates, and you remain a participant in good standing. The standard commission rate is currently 20%.
Each referred subscription’s rate is set on the day of its first paid payment (a free trial counts from the payment when it converts). It is the standard rate in effect that day, or, if higher, a special rate you hold that day. The subscription keeps that rate for as long as it continues, including its renewals and any change between plans. If the standard rate later changes, or a special rate ends, subscriptions that already started keep their rate. If a subscription ends and the person subscribes again later, the new subscription is paid at the rate in effect on its first payment.
We may offer special rates, such as a rate for creators who apply before a certain date or a higher rate for participants we invite. A special rate has a start date and may have an end date. It applies to referred subscriptions whose first payment is on or before that end date. Your referrals page shows any special rate you hold and when it ends. Special rates are offered at our discretion. Reaching a number of referrals does not by itself entitle you to one.
If a referred payment is refunded or charged back, the corresponding commission is reversed and deducted from your balance. If reversals exceed your unpaid balance, your balance may go negative; a negative balance carries forward and is offset against your future commissions before any new amount becomes payable. We will not ask you to repay amounts already paid out to you unless they resulted from fraud or a violation of these terms.
5. Payouts
Earnings are confirmed after a holding period and paid once your confirmed balance reaches the payout minimum. Your referrals page always shows the current holding period and minimum. Confirmed balances are paid by the 15th of the following month to the bank account you connect through Stripe, our payment processor, which must be in your name. We ask you to set up payouts once you have a balance to be paid. Balances under the minimum, or owed before payouts are set up, roll forward. You are responsible for keeping your payout details accurate; payments sent to the account you provided are deemed made.
6. Taxes
Commissions are taxable income to you, and you are solely responsible for applicable taxes. Before your first payout, you’ll give your tax details to our payout provider. If you’re paid enough in a calendar year to require one, you’ll get a Form 1099.
7. Rules of conduct
When you promote your referral link, you must clearly disclose that you earn a commission (for example, “I earn a commission if you subscribe”) as required by the FTC’s endorsement guides. The following are prohibited and result in forfeiture of unpaid commissions and removal from the Program: referring yourself or accounts you control; creating fraudulent accounts or purchases; sending spam or unsolicited bulk messages; bidding on Not Bored trademarks in search advertising; misrepresenting Not Bored, its pricing, or your relationship with us.
8. Program changes and termination
We may modify these terms or the Program, including the standard and special commission rates, minimums, and schedule, with notice to participants. Changes apply prospectively: they never reduce commissions already earned, and they do not change the rate of a referred subscription that has already started (Section 4). We may suspend or terminate the Program, or any participant’s involvement, at any time. You may leave the Program at any time. On any termination, matured commissions are paid on the normal schedule, commissions still in the holding period mature and are paid unless forfeited under Section 7, and no further commissions accrue.
9. General
You participate as an independent party; these terms create no employment, agency, or partnership relationship. Participation does not guarantee any level of earnings. These terms are governed by the laws of the District of Columbia. Our privacy policy describes how referral data is handled.
